Matchweek 8 Review: BRUSA Remain Undefeated
MATCHWEEK 8 REVIEW
BRUSA FC continued their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 7-5 victory over Colorado Futsal Academy in Denver, further tightening the Southwest Division playoff race. Despite an incredible five-goal performance from Beckan Ovalles, Colorado could not contain BRUSA’s well-balanced attack, led by Patrick Ruiz, who finished with three goals and two assists. The result pushes BRUSA to 3-0 on the season, while Colorado drops to 3-2, suffering their first home loss.
Colorado Futsal Academy (H) 5 - 7 BRUSA Futsal Club (A)
Colorado struck first at Bishop Machebeuf High School, with Ovalles opening the scoring in the second minute off a pass from Jesus Guillen. BRUSA responded quickly and took control of the first half, scoring four unanswered goals to establish a 4-1 lead. Patrick Ruiz got the visitors on the board in the eighth minute with an assist from Brian Vargas, before Kaue Martins finished a setup from Matheus Lima four minutes later to give BRUSA the lead. Ruiz struck again in the 15th minute, this time assisted by Yan Brandao, and completed his first-half hat trick in the 17th minute with another setup from Vargas.
Colorado fought back before the break, with Ovalles scoring twice in quick succession. His second goal in the 27th minute, assisted by Guillen, gave Colorado some life, and he completed his hat trick just a minute later after a pass from Emmanuel Vivas. At halftime, BRUSA held onto a narrow 4-3 advantage.
The second half saw Colorado momentarily pull level, as Ovalles struck again in the 32nd minute to make it 4-4. But BRUSA quickly reclaimed the lead, with Micha Vasey finishing an assist from Ruiz. Moments later, Martins extended the lead to 6-4, converting another Ruiz pass. Ovalles continued his remarkable individual performance with his fifth goal in the 36th minute, assisted by Vivas, keeping Colorado within reach. However, BRUSA sealed the win in the 37th minute, as Brandao finished off a Ruiz assist to restore the two-goal cushion and secure the victory.
The Updated league Table:
With the win, BRUSA FC improves to 3-0 and moves into a tie for first place in the Southwest Division alongside Colorado Futsal Academy, though BRUSA holds the advantage with two fewer games played. Colorado, now 3-2, remains in a strong position but will need to tighten up defensively after conceding seven goals at home.
Elsewhere in the division, New Mexico Flagship FC sits at 2-2, still in the mix but needing to find consistency. Santa Fe Gloom, at 1-5, is running out of time to climb back into contention.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Southwest Division battle is heating up, with BRUSA maintaining their perfect record and Colorado looking to bounce back. The question now is whether BRUSA can keep their momentum going and pull away from the pack, or if Colorado will rebound and reclaim the top spot.
