Matchweek 14 Review: BRUSA Claims Southwest Thriller to Lock Up First Place
MATCHWEEK 14 REVIEW: BRUSA CLAIMS SOUTHWEST THRILLER, LOCKS UP FIRST PLACE
The top spot in the Southwest Division was on the line, and BRUSA FC delivered under pressure, holding off a second-half surge from Colorado Futsal Academy to win 6-4 at Chandler Gilbert Community College. The win moves BRUSA to 7-1 on the season and all but seals the Southwest Division title heading into the final week.
BRUSA FC 6-4 COLORADO FUTSAL ACADEMY
In a matchup worthy of playoff implications, BRUSA struck first just four minutes into the game through Micah Vasey, setting the tone in front of a buzzing home crowd. Colorado answered quickly with Jesus Guillen equalized just two minutes later, and the rest of the first half saw both teams locked in a tactical battle, heading to halftime tied at 1-1.
The second half opened with renewed energy, and it was again Vasey who gave BRUSA the lead, scoring just under four minutes in. With momentum on their side, BRUSA pressed high and found a third goal through Yan Nascimento with 12:15 remaining, making it 3-1.
Then came the Matheus Lima takeover. The veteran forward scored three goals in a span of seven minutes, with strikes at 11:25, 10:18, and 4:14 to complete a game-sealing hat trick.
Colorado made a run in the middle of the second half to keep things interesting as Beckan Ovalles pulled one back with 10:38 left, followed by Guillen’s second of the night, and another from Ovalles to cut the lead to 5-4 with just under 7 minutes to play. But BRUSA held their nerve, and Lima’s final goal put the game to bed.
It was a complete team performance from BRUSA, combining early control with late-game composure, and showing they can respond when tested by a talented, well-coached Colorado side.
STANDINGS UPDATE: COLORADO & BRUSA TOP THE SOUTHWEST
With the win, BRUSA FC improves to 7-1 (21 pts) and now holds the head-to-head advantage over Colorado, securing the top seed in the Southwest.
